Performance Evidence
Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:
locates and applies applicable legislation, documentation, policies and proceduresimplements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient design and documentation of asphalt mixes including:accessing and interpreting plans, drawings, specifications and design briefsaccessing and interpreting engineering survey and geotechnical informationaccessing and interpreting hydrological, meteorological, cultural and heritage dataaccessing and interpreting and apply Australian and other appropriate standardsaccessing and interpreting asphalt mix selection dataaccessing and interpreting traffic dataapplying computer based design technologyapplying Industry or government standard design softwareapplying engineering graphical presentation techniquesapplying mix design procedures, such as marshall and hubbard-fieldworks effectively with others to undertake and complete the design and documentation of asphalt mixes that meets all of the required outcomes including:using a range of communication techniques and equipment to convey information to othersmaintaining written and verbal reporting requirementsorganising work activities to meet all task requirementscommunicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructionsdemonstrates completion of asphalt mix designs that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:calculate of areas, volumes, density, mass, grades, loads and stressesdetermine asphalt mix traffic category and loadings requirementsselect of asphalt mix design options identify and select proportion asphalt mix design componentschoose appropriate operational techniquesdevelop and apply design plansundertake the design, analyse relevant data and recommend the preferred optionComplete the designfinalisation of the design processes completing and submitting design cost and other reportingProvide clarification and advice to those applying the designsupport the application of the design.review application of design and recommending changes
